Today I attended my first yoga class in dresden… it felt great to be back at it again, I’d really gotten stiff & sore over the past 6 weeks. Plus, there’s nothing like winning friends & influencing people while in the downward facing dog position. It was english-speaking so I actually understood most of what my instructor was saying. Speaking of my instructor… drool, he’s yummy! (jeanni… if you never found the definition of ‘glamour cock’, I’m pretty sure he’s it) Looks a lot like this dude from CSI Las Vegas:

Only with a really cool accent. He can realign my chakras any time he’d like.
And now… a question for my new ex-pat pals. Do any of you know of a language lesson service that’s done over the phone? As the mommy of a 5 yr. old, it’s really difficult to leave her and go off to german lessons. Evening courses are also out for now because of Jim’s work/language lesson/teaching/training schedule. So I’m pretty much left twiddling my thumbs until september unless I can come up with a creative solution. Besides, the phone approach appeals to the antisocial, hate-having-to-don-a-bra-to-go-out-in-public side of me.
So if you know of a service… or just someone who could use a little extra $ (or should I say € ) for a few hours a week spent on the phone teaching german to a dork like me… please let me know.

He’s gay. heh. Now you realize you can’t truly apprieciate the europeon experience until your neighbors have seen you nude. Now you gotten this awkward task out of the way early lol
I tried tapes and Cd’s when I first arrived. It gives you the basics and helps. For a long time when I was first here I literally couldn’t tell when one German word ended and a new one began. These tapes and Cd’s did help
Nearly forgot……I like the new look .)
Most supermarkets have a bulletin board where you can put up little notes with buy/sell/offering services stuff. You could maybe try that. Or contact language schools (yellow pages!) and see if they have any free-lancers who’d be interested.
I found talking on the phone the hardest of all, even now still after gaining semi-fluency. I need the eye contact and body language. I would suggest the tapes, get to know the sound of it all, and watch movies with the subtitles turned on. Really.
Having no english cable in the apartment when I was sitting at home with no money for classes did wonders for my German. Watching TV can finally be productive and beneficial.
