It’s so about you!
May 5th, 2006 by B.
In an unparalleled (at least it’s unparalleled in my mind) act of camaraderie, I’m going to take some time to share with you… my intrepid readers… a little something about each of the bloggers I have in my blog role. If you haven’t checked them out yet, maybe this will inspire you to. I know I enjoy perusing their blogs on an almost daily basis.
**A Cry for Uranus**
What can I say about Jeanni from ‘A Cry For Uranus’… I love her. No, not in a lipstick lesbian, girl-on-girl action kind of way, but I still love her. Her blog is my personal imdb, as well as containing moment of sheer genius. It’s always a bonus to find someone who loves to talk about uranus as much as I do, and just knowing there is someone out there as anti-social (if not more) as me fills me with a tingly warmth. Hers is the first blog I check every morning… she’s the best part of waking up, the folgers in my cup. Only she tastes better… there, (just because I’m nice) a little sumin-sumin for the lipstick lesbian lovers.
**A Pandora’s Box**
A wise man once described ‘A Pandora’s Box’ as “yet another whimsical idea created by two people with internet identity crises…”. So true. Hopefully, eventually, it will be a fun place for people from around the globe to hang out & tick away the dull moments that make up a day. If not, it’s just another thing I’ll eventually quit… no harm, no foul.
But if you can’t get enough of my drivel in blogger land, or perhaps you want to know more about the elusive ‘twatwaffle’, both can be found by opening A Pandora’s Box. Don’t just read though… post too!
**Foreign in Frankfurt**
According to the comments I’ve read in Hamish’s ‘Foreign In Frankfurt’ blog he’s the unofficial blogger-baby-eye-candy of the expat world (there, that should net him a few stalkers. heh). At the ripe old age of 26 he has a high-pressure (and, thanks to an ugly boss, high-profile) career, laid back writing style and great sense of humor…. yet he isn’t afraid to use words like ‘dapper’, which helps to make him approachable, albeit a little nerdy. But nerdy in a good, ‘blogger-baby-eye-candy’ sorta way. Seriously, one of my favorite blogs, check him out if you haven’t already.
**Gaijin Girl Strikes Again**
I’m fascinated with the idea of living in Tokyo. I’m equally fascinated with all things Australian… Gaijin Girl from ‘Gaijin Girl Strikes Again’ just happens to be an australian girl living & working in Japan. How cool is that? I love reading about little men in hats waving wands while avoiding eye contact… actually, come to think of it, I’m reminded of Devo’s ‘whip it’ video. Ok, I just dated myself by whipping out (no pun intended) a Devo reference, didn’t I? Damn… must. deep. six. devo. talk.
**Germany Doesn’t Suck**
J. from ‘Germany Doesn’t Suck’ is a walking ad for the movie ‘American Flyers’. I’m convinced he can bring any topic back around to biking. World hunger, male pattern baldness, colorectal cancer, scabies… more biking! I’m equally convinced that if he doesn’t get off that bike seat soon he may never father children. But he’s also the first person who went out of his way to welcome me to expat blogging & germany. He has an incredible (and well deserved) following… and if memory serves me, he is the only person I know to have lived in Philly & still have good things to say about it after moving away. That’s something!
**Green Haddock**
Haddock of ‘Green Haddock’ is an enigma. You float along calmly in a sea of gardening tips & endearing stories about his daughter… then, out of nowhere, bam! He’s talking about aroused donkey chasing him and gray pubic hair. I love that I open his blog each time never knowing what to expect… will I get a cute little story about juniorette, or will he be talking about eating mushrooms that look like moldy penises? You just never know…
**Heisse Scheisse**
Jen of ‘Heisse Schiesse’ is hilarious. So funny in fact, that I can get past the whole ex-republican thing. I mean, we all experiment, right? Some do it by flirting with republicanism, other do it by swearing a blood oath to have sex with every man they meet with an ‘A’ in their first name… but I digress. Jen is witty, endearing, and has such a clear way with words and imagery that I have yet to eat an egg in germany (and probably never will).
And let us not forget Sparky… by day a mild-mannered marketing dude, by night- faithful husband to Jen & seemingly dedicated to a single cause… to make her blog more popular than jesus & chocolate combined! If I ever meet the heisse scheisse’s in person I plan to turn to sparky and shout “Stats, Man! Tell me the latest stats on your wife’s blog!” at which point (in my overactive imagination anyway) his eyes will glaze over and in a ‘HAL’ from 2001 A Space Odyssey meets Stephen Hawking’s kind of way, he’ll spit out overall visits (from the time they last walked away from the computer) repeat referrers, hits per minute/hour/day/week/month… he might even whip out a little pie chart he keeps in his wallet for just such occasions. And it will be laminated.
**Ich Bin Die Ananas**
If you ever have heavy electronics you need lugged up 14 flights of stairs… Cacheng from ‘Ich Bin Die Ananas’ is the one for you! By visiting his blog I am constantly reminded I should travel more & avoid scientology at all cost.
**Mausi**
Martha Stewart could take tips from Christine of the ‘Mausi’ blog. She is the perfect mom/wife/friend/person. (and you know that means deep-down she’s a super freak. heh). Once she posted a picture of bacon-wrapped veggies that actually made we wish I could cook. I’m convinced that in her hands even asparagus (which has always reminded me of an extra long cat penis) would come out looking classy. She’d probably make little cauliflower bowties & carrot cummerbunds. On top of all that, she seems amused by my antics instead of annoyed. Martha Stewart would so find me annoying.
Oh, and p.s., I think she wants to 69 her shoes…
**My Euro-American Life**
Claire from ‘My Euro-American Life’ possesses the rare combo of uber-smartness AND the willingness to discuss the size of sheep’s balls. My kinda gal! A poly-sci graduate married to a loving german and living in what I can only imagine to be the most rural part of germany. “How rural is it?”, you ask, why it’s so rural that I’ve projected Maria from ’sound of music’ onto Claire… I picture her walking though the streets of town in a snappy little apron & dress combo ‘guten taging’ everyone while stooping down to admire the local sheep. Her blog is a must read… and her politics are spot-on!
**Stepping Stones**
I’m still getting to know Kim from ‘Stepping Stones’, but I’m convinced her little doggie, Coco, is our last best hope against Rove. I’m also impressed by all the places she’s lived… I need to catch up!
**Still Here, Still Foreign**
Megan from ‘Still Here, Still Foreign’ is getting married soon… and amazingly enough, she doesn’t obsess about it in her blog. Which is pretty damn cool. She’s also got a great writing style and is very funny. Oh, and soon will have a big-ass diamond wedding ring that may or may not contain trace amounts of poo. Don’t ask…
**That Queer Expatriate**
I’ve decided that Adam from ‘That Queer Expatriate’ either holds an advanced degree in physics or is a super-secret cia spy. Quite possibly both. In either event I’m positive he’s much smarter than I am, but nice enough not to rub it in. He’s intelligent, well read, snarky enough to keep it interesting… and, more importantly, he’s clued me into the fact that gay bars are far more interesting than hetero ones. He’s also the only person that’s ever made me contemplate douching with lysol. Again, don’t ask…
**The Blythe Spirit**
I really like Blythe from’ The Blythe Spirit’. And I’d be interested in reading some of her writing. It’s also great seeing her perspective on living & hausfrauing in deutschland, as she’s only been here a few months longer than I have. She seems so elegant, yet still manages to get excited over strawberry poptarts… and we all know strawberry poptarts are the shiz.
**The Swamp Goddess Files**
MT of ‘The Swamp Goddess Files’ has a new media center, the only non-redneck high school football coach husband in the deep south AND a brand new set of funky purple luggage! She has read her way through 3/4 of the books out there and still finds time to give me advice on must see tv. Oh, and I want my very own ‘the only bush I trust is my own’ t-shirt… just like hers!
And yay! Sven finally set up his blog… http://www.donsblog.donsbilder.de/
Now all that’s left is for my good pal, Remus, to set up a blog (hint, hint)
On this day..
- Dude looks like a lady. - 2007
- Mea Culpa. - 2006

Well, looks like my shameless self promotion is working. I love these blogger lovefests, I’ll definitely check some of these out. By the way, I’ve been hooked on your blog since you said Fergie must die.
(Claire Blushing) Thanks B! There are some new blogs for me. More happy reading, and support of my blog habit.
Oh, and I definitly don’t twirl and sing. If I did, people would run screaming with their ears covered! LOL.
Vielen Dank!
Ich werde in Verlegenheit gebracht.
PS- MT and I will be in Dresden Neustadt bahnhof for something like 8 minutes, moving from platform 7 to 5, or is it 5 to 7? Not sure…
Adam- what day? maybe I can meet you both for a quick hello/goodbye? We’re out of town this weekend & next (munich for training for jim) & next weekend Prague… but other than that I should be around.
Wednesday, the 10th. Send me email– I use gmail.com, and I’m called elmadaeu on there.
(gasp) Someone reads me! Thanks B… now I will delete the post I was about to put up about my wedding… am I allowed to obsess a little now that I’ve broken the one month barrier?
Aww, thanks! I think.
Yes, I may just buy those shoes after all…
Mausi and Greehaddock are a couple of my fave expat in Germany blogs, and I’m only just getting to know Kim too. You have good taste!
Thanks so much for the mention. I don’t remember how I found your blog, but I’m glad that I did. You definitely need to come to the Whiney Expat Bloggers in Germany Meet-Up this autumn and meet many of us in person (we haven’t determined a date or location yet).
Yo Philly!
Yes, I lived in Philadelphia and loved it. Actually, I loved it so much that it’s my adopted home in the US.
hi, thanks for the mention, and what a lovely idea for a post! i’m happy to answer any questions about oz if you like. er, why the aussie fascination?
ok, i’m dating myself by totally getting your devo reference…
I love it! I roared when I read the description of my non-redneck husband. Let me tell you, it takes a lot of good feminist nagging to keep him from turning to the dark side. (LOL - Just Kidding!)
Aww you’re sweet (despite the tough chick mask you put on!)
