We’re finally home again after an unexpected hotel stay. It all started when Jim insisted we call an electrician because he was certain we had some oddball wiring problem. I don’t remember the specifics of it… something about things still having electrical current to them even when switches are turned off… blah blah… honestly, I wasn’t really paying attention when he was talking about it. I put in the ‘much ado about nothing’ category and was mostly annoyed that I had to remain bra-ed & shoe-d between the hours of 12:00 - 4:00 on tuesday.
And I guess the moral of this story is never argue with an electrical engineer when it comes to anything involving electricity. They’re usually right… and what’s worse… they’re prone to gloating. The electrician showed up & explained to me through the universal language of hand gestures, facial expressions and drawings of my flat on fire (complete with a little picture of me with flames coming out of my hair, arms & legs) that it wasn’t safe and part of the flat would need to be rewired. Goodie.
Still, the owner was quick to respond and even put us in a hotel not too far away while the work was done here. Downside.. the hotel wasn’t air conditioned and didn’t have internet access. Upside… we didn’t have to pay for it, so I really can’t complain all that much.
And now I’m home with fresh wiring, ozone depleting a.c. & am no longer haunted by nightmare drawings of myself on fire. There really is no place like home…

Wow! That sounds like it could have been really exciting in a most unhappy way. At least the owner was quick with fixing everything–I could imagine in the USA that an owner would drag their feet, hoping that nothing burned.
Did you happen to save the drawings?
Yikes ! A hotel without a/c … and you had just gone through a brutal heat wave of 85, 82 & 80.
Glad things are back in order and was not like a scene from The Towering Inferno.
Adam- The owner is actually really cool. We’ve met him twice now and both times he’s been great. I didn’t get to keep the drawing… he did it on the back of a work order and I only got the top copy. I wish I’d asked for it though… it was frame-worthy.
Remus- 85 is hot!
85 is hot! LOL! You are so funny B!
