This & That.

When did men start wearing capri pants? We went for a long walk yesterday and just about every man we passed was wearing girly capri pants. When did this happen? Is it happening in the U.S. too, or is it just a european thing? I guess I’m used to men wearing manly shorts and capris being a women-only thing.

We had a Bob Vila weekend… we managed to install a new sink (I hate the single-tub sinks they have here. The flat side does absolutely nothing… I want two big tubs to stack my dirty dishes in), a new toilet (so long poop deck!), more shelves in the kitchen and a semi-permanent window venting thingy for the air conditioning units in each bedroom (prior to that we’ve just had them venting into the hallway at night… and if you’ve ever had one, you know that’s a lot of hot air).
I’m happy to report that everything seems to be working as it should… no blood was lost… very little tears were shed… and we’re still speaking to each other. So, all in all, a success.

Jim is way too excited about his navigational system. We can’t drive to the market anymore without him purposefully getting lost to see if the nav. system can get us home again. For the record, yes, it can… but I’m sick of ending up in some dairy farm in Pirna when all I wanted was sprite & bagels.

Why are hotels in Paris so damn small? I’m having a hell of a time finding a space large enough for the four of us. If you search for hotels for the time we’re there… no problem, there’s a plethora. If you search for hotels that can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children… nothing. Damn me for reproducing so often!

We’re almost through season one of West Wing and I’m loving it. It took me a little while to suspend my skepticism that there was **no way in hell** anyone walking the hallowed halls of the white house could be so noble… but once I reminded myself this was mindless entertainment, I ate it up. The favorites so far are Josh & CJ, with Leo being a close third. I’m so excited I’ve got 5 seasons to go…

I’m consistently dreaming in two languages now… it’s bizarre.

I could watch every episode of TWW 5 times in a row and not get tired of it. Josh is one of my TV boyfriends. Toby will grow on you, too. (By the way, not to break your heart, but did you know that John Spence (Leo) passed away during filming of the final season last year? Sob.)
We stayed at the Best Western Le Nouvel Orleans in Paris a few months ago:

in a room with three single beds - maybe they have some other unusual (for Paris) configurations as well. It was in a good spot - across from the Metro - and clean, breakfast included, etc.
I’ve accepted that capris are just a Euro thing, but if you couple it with a sleeveless t-shirt, that’s a different story. I’m worried about going to the dark side… I’ve been eyeing man purses lately. It’s strictly a practicality issue though, I just need two extra pockets worth of space, and it’s too warm for a jacket, and my messenger bag is overkill. Help.
Those aren’t capri pants, just highwaters german-style! I’m sure all those guys work in the same IT dungeon somewhere…
Best Western Gaillon Opera was a good hotel for me last year. BUT the rooms were small. They just are that way in Paris until you reach an income bracket that usually dictates that you are also named Paris.
Nope euro trash thing. No straight males in the US wearing capris.
Somehow staying at a Best Western when in Paris just seems wrong.
Like going to EuroDisney and eating at McDonalds.
otoh … I probably would have to go to Mickey D’s there just to order a Royale with Cheese … even if I did not eat it.
