Through the looking glass…

Pearl Jam put on a great concert saturday… we were a little stranged out about what a PJ concert would be like in germany. Would the germans be polite, or moshy? Would Eddie speak a little deutsch to make the locals feel welcome? Would it be loud as f^ck because noise ordinances are much less restrictive here? Would we end up battered and bruised like I was the last time I saw PJ in 1996? The answers are: mostly moshy, yes, YES and a little.
I think the thing that struck me the most was looking around at the crowd and thinking “man, there sure are a lot of older people here… that’s weird”. Then I realized they were all probably my age and that meant I had turned into one of the old people… damn. But Eddie sounded great and they played a good mix of the old & the new… it’s still weird to see people in their 30’s-50’s trying to thrash around. One guy who looked like a mild mannered accountant by day I’m pretty sure threw out his back… and another guy was thrashing around while explaining to us the tax ramifications of owning a pet in deutschland. Weird.
On this day..

I can recall watching the “Evenflow” video and being captivated by Eddie’s sweaty manliness. I don’t think I’ve ever been so enraptured by a man in long underwear since. I’d be too afraid to see what he looks like now. What if he went the way of Axle Rose, (worse) Billy Idol, or (even worse) Sebastian Bach? Time did not treat those well.
Recently, I was trying to explain the 1980s to a sixteen-year-old. When I asked if he knew what I was talking about, he answered that he had been born in 1990. That’s when I knew I was old. Tax conversation at a concert? You can now join me . . .
Eddie’s still pretty cute… thank god he hasn’t pulled an Axle, cause Axle’s just scary now.
LOL! B, as I near 40 (eeecch!) I am beginning to fully realize……Getting old sucks balls! At least we still have some excellent taste in music…..Nobody can ever take that away from us…heheh
