Quick Update.
Oct 10th, 2006 by B.
The past week has been a blur of family oriented activities and chores. Nothing really noteworthy, but I am happy to report that Sydney turned six yesterday with all the pomp & pageantry expected for a spoiled little princess. Saturday we had a birthday slumber party… 4 little girls = tons of giggling, dancing, role playing, drama, the occasional hurt feeling, junk food eating, tummy aches, not quite making it to the potty in time, scary bedtime stories and homesickness… and that was just me.
And now I’m switching gears. Time to go into ‘douche the damn flat’ mode as my in-laws will arrive a week from today and my mil made her living cleaning houses for over 20 years. It’s an understatement to say she’s a neat freak. And as the ‘divorcee, messy, older than her son, hippie, democrat’ daughter-in-law… well, I’ve got to try to earn points when & where I can.
p.s. Is it ‘hippie’ or ‘hippy’? I never know…

Hi, if you need some travel-tips: Goerlitz is a nice city at the german-polish border not far away from Dresden. Try this link: http://www.goerlitz.de/index_en.html

Happy belated birthday to Sidney
Can’t really help you w/ the cleaning stuff, I have a hard time keeping up w/ all the slobby customers I deal w/ on a regular basis :-/
Görlitz is a nice city, but if you want inexpensive lodgings you could walk into the Polish side — I visisted Görlitz not too long ago and had an interesting time, as it were. It’s a very interesting study in the contrast between a city that’s had a lot of money invested in infrastructure and restoration against a city that since the end of the cold war has languished without a significant budget. Germany is unquestionably richer than Poland. You can see photos from my trip on Flickr: Görlitz and Zgorzelec.
I hope the visitors from Amerika aren’t too much trouble and that your upcoming tour de Europe is fun!
Ah, the MIL problem. Thank God, my MIL is a slob so we never have to overclean when she comes to visit. Plus, nothing I do will ever make me the good daughter in law, seeing how (1) I work; (2) I don’t have babies; and (3) I make more money than her son. LOL!
I think hippy means pear shaped. Hippie is of the peace, love and mungbeans.
Usually the neat freak stereotype is reserved for the German mother-in-laws. Luckily mine doesn’t seem to care too much… but I should give credit where credit is due: to our housecleaner and me for wanting to hire her.
hello, nice day…
