Who’s counting?

Not that I’m excited or anything, but in three weeks, two days and four hours we leave for 11 glorious days in London. Any tips on places to go, things to do or where to eat would be greatly appreciated. We rented a holiday apartment near Putney… now, I have no idea if Putney’s in a good part of the city or conveniently located or anything (with my luck it’s where all the crack whores hang out), I just know the apartment’s pretty:

In hindsight the ‘pretty’ factor might not have been the best criteria for determining where we’d stay, but it’s too late now I suppose.
Oh, and this morning my Frommer’s ‘Best Day Trips from London’ guide was delivered (thank you amazon.co.uk!) … as I pour through it I realize that I don’t know my Bath from my York from my Canterbury. Still, we’ll have 11 days, a car & unbridled curiosity… god save the queen!
On this day..

I’m not sure, but I suspect the car might be a white elephant — unless you are planning on getting out of London quite a bit.
We definitely plan to travel beyond London. I figure we’ll explore the city for 4 or 5 days and then take day trips to surrounding cities/sites with our remaining time.
After seeing your comment I image the car will stay parked for the London part though…
I choose places based on the “pretty” factor too. So far, no great disapointments, but I’m sure at some point I’ll end up with the crack whores. Can’t wait to see your pictures. Enjoy the planning.
You are one lucky bird.
Bath is about 2 hours from London and is well worh a visit. It has some famous Roman Baths there
That apartment looks gorgeous. That would have been enough to persuade me. We’ve rented a bright yellow house in Denmark for the Easter holidays. Not quite sure how I feel about that yet.
I’m really hoping to make it to Denmark this year… a bright yellow house there sounds perfect!
Hi ET! If I were going back to London, I would definitely go to Oxford, York, Bath, Warwick Castle, Stonehenge, & Glastonbury. Warwick Castle gave me the creeps, but it was amazing to see from an historical perspective. I’m interested in visiting places that have unusual energy because I’m keenly sensitive to that sort of thing and enjoy the experience. Each of the places I listed gave me goosebumps for one reason or another. I envy all your travels and wish I could visit the places you’ve been! Have a wonderful time!
Funny you should mention spooky places… I just ordered a book called ‘Haunted Britain & Ireland’ because I eat stuff like that up! I’ll be sure to fit Warwick Castle in, and most of the other places you mentioned were already on our to-see list. It should be a fun trip…
That apartment looks lovely. I usually only visit London when I visit England, but will also be venturing out a bit this year.
A bit out of the center, but Putney’s not such a bad corner of London.

Just don’t leave the country without eating a curry meal.
