Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Thanks to iTunes, helpful family members, industrious friends and a few other methods of questionable legality, I’m happy to report we can now follow american tv like we’re practically there. With roughly a day’s lag-time we’re currently watching:
24 (wwjbd)
Lost (is it a bad thing to like the others best?)
Criminal Minds (love it!)
Heroes (not great, but definitely good)
House (this show once convinced me I had myo-something-arditis)
Scrubs (it’s like comfort food, fuzzy socks & puppies all rolled into a warm, welcoming 30 minutes)
My Name is Earl (a show making fun of rednecks, how could I not love it?)
American Idol (not even out of auditions and I already have favorites!)
Amazing Race All Stars (when it starts anyway… and, by the way, best reality show EVER)
Survivor: Fiji (just for you, cant)
I predict soon we’ll be adding others to the fold, and I can’t begin to tell you how nice it is to feel plugged in again. Between this and Premiere we may never get around to watching all the movies we’ve got stockpiled…
On this day..

Stop bragging! I’m so jealous! I miss Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. And I miss Top Chef and Project Runway - fantastic reality shows that actually focus on people with talent.
I\’ve never seen Project Runway or the american version of Top Chef. Completely love BBC\’s Masterchef Goes Large (I\’m thinking it\’s where top chef got its idea).
I can try to burn Lost to a dvd and mail it to you (as well as future eps, just let me know… we expats have to stick together!
We\’re also about to start season 1 of Grey\’s Anatomy. From everything I\’ve heard I\’m thinking we\’ll love it and soon it\’ll be part of the rotation.
The Office is the best show on American tv.
I\’ve been nervous about watching the u.s. version of The Office because I love Ricky Gervais\’ original so very much. But I suppose if the NBC version is even half as good it\’s well worth hitting iTunes for…
I just bought a season pass at itunes for Ugly Betty, because I felt the need for a bit of sunshine and light :). We do House and Grey’s anatomy in English from Swiss TV, but as we just lost Austrian Tv last night (I am in mourning) who knows how much longer we’ll have that. I’d be eager to here what methods you use for the “questionable stuff” - we could always use some help.
Ann- You can grab certain things using BitTorrent and still stay on the right side of the law. Look for uploads of series that are shared by the broadcasting company itself. For instance, all those shows that you can go watch online after they air… only we can\’t because we live outside north america. Those are ok to download using BitTorrent. If you\’re willing to risk being called out for it later, you can get just about anything via BT including movies that haven\’t left the theatre. I\’m too much of a wimp to go for it though… getting to see Borat before it comes out on dvd is not worth hefty fines to me.
Another nice (legal) work-around is a sling box. If you\’ve got family or friends in america with a fast internet connection (this is what kills it for us… all of our family members are still in the dark ages using a dial-up) you can send them a slingbox (I think it\’s about $200), they hook it up to their tv like another cable box and then plug in your IP and suddenly you\’re able to view all of their stations. The downside is the huge time difference which might have you staying up until 3:00 a.m. to watch Sopranos, but there are ways around that too…
If you’ve never seen The Office before and plan to watch it, I’ll warn you that the entire first season is a carbon copy of the British version. Same jokes, same plot lines. Funny, but it didn’t get original until season 2.
ohhh you are going to love survivor fiji….now go set candle across the ipod and enjoy
