Back, happy, tired.

Although I’m just about dead on my feet I thought I’d pop in to say we’re back. We left no stone unturned in London & surrounding area and the only thing we didn’t get around to that I regret not seeing was the tower of london. Oh well, gives us a reason to go back.
I’ll talk more about our trip when I can string together a coherent thought, but I will say that I actually didn’t dread coming back to Germany like I thought I would, oh… around wednesday or so. Don’t get me wrong, the UK’s a great place. I can’t begin to tell you how great it was to get up and read the paper every morning for the first time in a year (and damn, have they got a ton of papers to pick from), and the simple joy of being able to read & understand every sign, every billboard, every everything can’t be overlooked. Still, London had an aggression (reminiscent of america) I’d kind of forgotten about. I guess I missed my nice, polite germans… and I certainly feel safer roaming the streets of Dresden at midnight than I did the streets of London after dark.
Does that make sense? Not sure… I’m going on about 5 hours of combined sleep in the past 48 or so.
We also saw a ton of great (and not so great) movies over our vacation. I’ll be sure to write about them tomorrow in advance of the oscars… I can actually make educated guesses this year! We’ve now seen 4 of the 5 films up for best picture with the outlier being Clint Eastwood’s flick, and as a general rule I don’t like his stuff, so I don’t feel I’m missing out.
Ok, heh, now I’m blathering on… time for sleep

Welcome home! I know that I’ve missed you and your writings!
Glad you’re back, I can’t wait to read more about your trip.
If you have time, enter my Oscar pool:

Don’t worry about the deadline, just submit it before the broadcast. Will you get to watch?
Welcome back! Glad in a way that you noticed how aggressive the UK is. I notice more each time I go back. But my friends and family in the UK don’t seem to have noticed it.
Yes, I think you are right about the aggressiveness. I feel the same.
Being able to effortlessly read everything again, I felt like the volume had been turned up loud, didn’t you? All of a sudden signs were speaking clearly to me telling me to “Mind the Gap” and “Look Right”. I felt bombarded with information, in a good but at times overwhelming way. It really emphasized what manages to wash over me in Germany.
Glad you’re back, hope it was a real blast.
Megan- yep, I noticed the added noise… plus it was odd and jarring knowing anyone could understand me when I was out in public. I’ve gotten so used to the feeling that I can say whatever I want because no one understands me anyway. I missed my privacy.
It was a great trip though… and now I’m counting the days till Ireland.
