Sydney’s kindergarten has got to be the field-trippinest kindergarten known to man. Last week they had two devoted to produce alone (lame, I know, but true) and today was a trip to the farm. A trip consisting of five adults trying to navigate 17 children through a minefield of cow/horse/pig/goat/sheep/chicken shit, cages that could be (and were) opened with the flick of a finger, goats that liked to bite, two children with an allergy to fur (seriously… why even bring them?), a playground that we were warned might be tick infested… and those are just the things I haven’t blocked in order to retain my sanity.
Anyway, as I was touring the farm I had two… no, make that three epiphanies.
Epiphany 1: I’m not sure I like children all that much unless they’re my own. Sure, they’re cute, but they just don’t listen. Especially the boys.
Epiphany 2: Farm animals on the whole are ugly, dirty, smelly, sad & stupid. Especially the hogs, who actually deserve their own special category- fucking disgusting.
Epiphany 3: Each time I eat a steak/chicken nugget/slice of bacon I’m essentially shoveling into my body the carcass of something that was once ugly, dirty, smelly, sad, stupid and/or fucking disgusting. Why bother? I should totally stop eating meat.
On this day..

Really? I always the other parents’ little girls…all that whining and the attitude….boys would have at least made poop jokes…
oh good gravy….add the word disliked in reference to the other parents’ little girls. Posting should not be done in a nyquil induce haze
As a primary school teacher, I think that it is important to note that most days, I think “Thank God I don’t have to go home to my own kids!” I don’t know how teachers with children do it. My biological clock has never ticked once - I think my maternal urges are fully satisfied every day.
And if you do decide to go veg - more power to you!
