You may not see it, but EuroTrippen’s been getting a facelift behind the scenes. The location of the super secret hidden blog testing site with a really long path that no one would even be able to guess is quite secure. And while it may be known only to a select few, I must visit it at least 20 times a day.
When I first started mulling over the new design idea, I knew I wanted something that was unique and would represent who I was. A little narcissistic, sure, but hey… I’m a Leo. It comes with the territory. The skins I have now are ok, but anyone with a search engine and modicum of technical prowess could find & upload them. Nothing special there. I wanted something that belonged solely to this blog.
Still, I encountered problems. First off, finding someone to do the design proved difficult. I looked long & hard for stuff I liked that wouldn’t break the bank. For a while I figured Moxie was the way to go, but then I got at least 3 or 4 emails/posts warning me off them. Point taken. I also knew I couldn’t do it myself. I may be creative in some areas, but I’m smart enough to know my limitations. And I really do suck when it comes to anything visual artsy. I think it’s partly because I’m not a details person. When someone asks what my favorite food is, I’m apt to say “chicken”. If asked to drill down further I’m apt to get a deer-caught-in-headlights looks, gulp loudly, and say “uh, good chicken that’s, um, baked or grilled or served with other stuff in it or… whatever?”.
Yep, the ‘me like chicken’ example pretty much sums it up… I’m in waaay over my head when it comes to the finer points.
Enter one of my bestest pals and perhaps the most creative person I know. She had me throw together a list of what I had in mind, a few colors I liked and general thoughts on what sort of feel I was going for. And while she hasn’t gone pro with web designing yet ( she really should ) it looks great! Even better, it feels like something I’m totally at ease with. It’s like cyber comfy jeans & flip flops… cool in its casualness. And I love it! The best part has been witnessing the evolution… I may not be gifted in the artistic department, but I sure can appreciate the process.
I also can’t wait for you all to see the finished products, but you’ll need to be patient a little longer as one skin’s just about done, but two others are still in the works. In the meantime this is my way of saying thanks to her and I love it and I love her and I completely don’t deserve something so special…
