Are we compatible?
Jun 12th, 2007 by B.
I was talking to a friend yesterday about an online dating service he recently signed up for. The whole concept of a questionnaire telling you who you’ll be most compatible with seems dubious at best, but what do I know? Anyway, I’m in the throes of a low-energy/creativity swing, so I thought I’d adapt a few of the questions I found interesting and post them here. We can see if we’re compatible blogging pals or not. Having said that, I have absolutely no idea how to score it… so we’re more or less just playing to play.
If you so choose (and I hope you do) post your answers in comments and I’ll add mine (I’ve already filled them in) tomorrow evening. Here goes:
- Creationism or Evolution? Evolution baby!
- Name three cities worldwide (excluding where you’re currently living) you’d love to live in. Kathmandu, Nepal / Tokyo, Japan / Lima, Peru
- What is the first thing you deem important that you do each morning? Check email
- The movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray & Andie MacDowell- Loved it or hated it? Loved it, still love it, will always love it. Bill Murray can do no wrong.
- Are you a late nighter or an early riser? If given the choice I’d stay up until 3:00 or 4:00 and sleep until 7:00 or 8:00. It’s rare I sleep longer than 4 sequential hours. So, both I guess.
- What’s your preferred beverage on a hot summer’s day? I’m still a kid at heart- lemonade (preferably pink) with lots of ice.
- Name your favorite Elton John song. God I hope no one picks the damn disney theme song. I tried to go with someone well known with a large catalogue of songs, and my uncle (one of my favorite people growing up) was a huge Elton John fan. He used to play Honky Château all the time, a not-so-well-known song called ‘Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters’ became my favorite. Having said that, I want it stated for the record that I’m not an actual fan..
- You’ve been tasked to spend 3 months as the sole inhabitant of a small island off the coast of Tahiti. You’re allowed to bring only one of the following forms of entertainment: assorted books, assorted music, portable dvd player with assorted films, or assorted crossword puzzles and other brain teasers. Which would you choose? Assorted music, with books being a very close second.
- In your current homelife: there’s a place for everything and everything’s in its place -or- creative clutter reigns supreme. I wouldn’t know what to do with an organized home, certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable there… I’d be too afraid of messing something up.
- Which of the following are you most likely to cheat on: a test, a diet, a lover, a timecard, taxes? Hmmm, sadly at one point or another I’ve been guilty of all of these no-no’s (with the exception of taxes… someone else always does those). I’m guessing most people will pick ‘diet’ as the thing they’re likely to cheat on, but I’m going with timecard. I’m a black belt in slipping in late, taking long lunches and leaving early.
And thanks for playing… now I can finally go read all your answers!
On this day..

Ooooh, I love these every once in a while, okay, so here’s mine……
Creationism or Evolution? Evolution I think….Seems to make more sense to me
Name three cities worldwide (excluding where you’re currently living) you’d love to live in. Oh this is easy….Sydney Australia, New York City, & Los Angeles (or San Fran) California
What is the first thing you deem important that you do each morning? Get up, go pee, check email-can’t live w/o it
The movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray & Andie MacDowell- Loved it or hated it? Hated it, it was stupid
Are you a late nighter or an early riser? Depends, I’m usually an early riser particularly in the summer, not so much in the winter, & I’ll stay up late occationally, but not that much
What’s your preferred beverage on a hot summer’s day? Ice Tea, Diet Pepsi
Name your favorite Elton John song. I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues
You’ve been tasked to spend 3 months as the sole inhabitant of a small island off the coast of Tahiti. You’re allowed to bring only one of the following forms of entertainment: assorted books, assorted music, portable dvd player with assorted films, or assorted crossword puzzles and other brain teasers. Which would you choose? I can’t live w/o music, so, that’s what I’d pick
In your current homelife: there’s a place for everything and everything’s in its place -or- creative clutter reigns supreme. The latter is the general rule for me, lol
Which of the following are you most likely to cheat on: a test, a diet, a lover, a timecard, taxes? A test, if I could; a diet, highly likely; a lover, never ever if I could help it; a timecard, been there, done that; taxes, I am barely able to do myself as it is, so if I cheat on them, it’s purely unintentional, lol!
1) Evolution, hands down
2) I’d love to live in (a)Vancouver; (b) Cape Town; and (c) London
3) Brush. My. Teeth.
4) I loved Groundhog Day.
5) In Europe I’m an early riser. In the USA I’m a late nighter. These are the exact opposite of what would be best for work.
6) Iced tea, no sugar.
7) I don’t really have a favorite. The only one that comes to mind is the candle in the wind one.
9) creative clutter.
10) a diet.
1)Evolution
2)Austin, Charlottesville, Ann Arbor (the three other cities I have lived in, I know I like them alot) I can’t do big cities.
3)1st thing - Shower
4)I can’t remember how I felt about Groundhog day - or if I’ve even seen the whole thing.
5)Late nighter
6)Preferred Beverage: this is hard. Diet Sprite?
7)Elton John Song: For the Longest Time
8)Island: books (I would get the most time out of them i think, and would be more likely to go through twice or more)
9)Homelife: I’m relatively tidy, especially for a dude.
10)Most likely to cheat on a test. Or maybe timecard.
1. Creationism or Evolution? — Evolution
2. Name three cities worldwide — Belgrade, Amsterdam, Calgary
3. What is the first thing you deem important — snuggle with my son
4. The movie Groundhog Day — Was alright the first time, but after that - wasn’t a great movie to rewatch.
5. Are you a late nighter or an early riser? — both
6. What’s your preferred beverage on a hot summer’s day? — iced coffee
7. Name your favorite Elton John song. — Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, though I also have a soft spot for Rocket Man…
8. You’ve been tasked to spend 3 months as the sole inhabitant of a small island off the coast of Tahiti — assorted books
9. In your current homelife — there’s a place for everything, but it doesn’t always get put away when it should.
10. Which of the following are you most likely to cheat on — a diet, i wouldn’t cheat on any of the others.
1. I think it’s possible to interpret the Creation story as a description of Evolution. However, I think the Bible (and the Koran, and the Book of Mormon, and any other religious text) should be kept out of the science classroom.
2. London, New York, San Francisco (all assuming I had a job that would adequately finance my rock-n-roll lifestyle)
3. Feed the baby
4. I liked it the first time. I’ve seen it too many times now to appreciate it. I guess that’s kind of appropriate?
5. I used to be more of a night person, but now I just sleep whenever I can.
6. Lemonade or Coke (not Diet Coke) with lots of ice
7. I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues
8. Books
9. Everything in its place. It’s better if I can get someone else to actually do the cleaning, but I can’t relax unless the clutter is gone.
10. Diet
1. well, since these are the only two options listed… i’ll go with evolution…
2. i could probably name a million cities other than where i currently live… chicago, tokyo, zurich, luang prabang
3. hmmm, this tops the elton john question as the hardest of the bunch for me… hard time thinking of anything i do each morning i’d deem important… breathe i guess. maybe.
4. probably my favorite comedy… loved it.
5. yes (both)
6. water
7. ummm, oh… “your song”
8. first of all, where can i sign up… and as will come as absolutely no surprise to you… films
9. it’s not even creative…
10. in order: timecard, diet, taxes, test, lover…
1. Evolution, without a doubt.
2. Marseille, FR; The Hague, NL; Auckland, NZ
3. Get out of bed.
4. Loved it
5. Late nighter, most certainly
6. Iced Tea (icy cold)
7. Rocket Man
8. Assorted Music
9. Creative clutter reigns supreme - sometimes I’m amazed at how creative it can get.
10. a diet
1. A combination of both
2. Austin, NYC and New Orleans
3. Waking Up! Followed very closely by actually GETTING OUT of bed
4. LOVED Groundhog Day
5. Definitely a late nighter
6. Non Alcoholic is Diet Coke (cut me and I bleed Dt. Coke). Alcoholic is a pina colada
7. I’m Still Standing or Little Jeannie
8. BOOKS! I can’t live without reading!
9. Organized clutter
10. I think I’ve cheated on all of them before, but the diet makes me feel less guilty.
1) Evolution, no question.
That’s hard. I can’t imagine to live without music, but with a good book time passes by a lot faster. Then again, would I want time to pass by fast while I have an island all for myself?
2) Berlin (will move there next year), Hamburg, maybe Rome (spent only a week there, so I can’t really imagine what life would be like)
3) Stumble into the bathroom and get my contact lenses into my eyes
4) Liked it, but didn’t actually love it.
5) Late nighter who is right now forced to get up at 5:30am for at least another 12 weeks…
6) Iced tea. And since my birthday a few weeks ago, pina colada in the evenings. Yummy.
7) The only one I can think of is ‘Candle in the wind’. Not one of my favourites, but okay.
Ah, I guess I choose the books and sing to myself while reading.
9) Too much tidiness just means you’re too lazy to search for things. There’s a saying in german that goes something like that - don’t know, if there’s a similar one in english. (I hope, my translation is halfway correct.)
10) I don’t know what a timecard is, I get all my taxes back (the benefit of earning very little money), I would never cheat on a lover, don’t need a diet (but would most probably cheat on it) and cheated on a test and would most likely of them all do that again.
Aren’t you surpised by who is reading your journal?
1. Creationism - Interesting that I am the only one. The rest of you are going to hell.
2. Australia, Italy and Next door to Brad Pitt
3. Say hello to my kids.

5. Late night, but it ends up being early morning.
6. Molson Lite

8. Movies
9. Oh God…
1. Evolution, though I don’t see any reason that the two have to be mutually exclusive.
2. Chicago, Seattle, Boston (well, I had to stick to places I’ve actually been)
3. Stop hitting snooze and get up!
4. I have no feelings for it either way.
5. I wish I was one or the other, but am truly neither. I hate getting up early, and I am a big tired wuss at night.
6. Apfelschorle, now. Probably would have been lemonade in the US.
7. Philadelphia Freedom, close second to I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues
8. Assorted books, even though I don’t read much in my real life. I think it would be the best form of escapism on an island, though.
9. Understandable (by me) clutter
10. DIET!!!!
Wait a minute I put a Billy Joel Song down.
1) Evolution, no question about that
Books
2) Hmmm… that’s difficult. Let’s say Washington DC, Paris, and Budapest (Richmond, VA gets an honorable mention)
3) I’m 8 months pregnant. There is nothing more important when I wake up in the morning than getting to the bathroom to pee.
4) Loved it and I don’t even like Andie MacDowell.
5) It kinda swings back and forth. Yesterday I was up at 4am. Today I am still awake at 1am.
6) Iced coffee
7) Rocket Man, I guess, or Crocodile Rock
9) Most everything has a place, it just usually isn’t in it - so I guess that makes it creative clutter
10) A diet
1. Evolution
2. Berlin, Barcelona, Sydney
3. restroom
4. Loved it!
5. late nighter. Morning people are evil
6. Lemonade
7. Little Jeanie
8. ipod. Never ever leave home without it
9. creative clutter reigns supreme - it gets more creative with each passing
day
10. diet!
1. Evolution
2. München, Salt Lake City, London
3. Restroom
4. Loved it
5. Early riser, but only because I have kids who (have to) get up at 5.30. By nature I’d be a late nighter.
6. Cole diet Coke
7. I’m still standing. Then again I don’t even *know* very many Elton John songs.
8. Books, hands down

10. Taxes

8. Books. They’re all in English, right?
9. I arrange my closet in rainbow color order, what do you think?

1. Evolution
2. San Fransisco, Rhodos, um…that’s all.
3. Hello! Stumble into the kitchen and make a VERY large cup of coffee!!
4. loved it…viewing weekend was very sentimental weekend for me, so I associate…
5. So NOT a late nighter!! Even when I try!
6. a very, very cold beer, or very very sweet tea.
7. I’m Still Standing, Daniel, or Rocket Man
8. 3 months…it would be books, I’d really want movies, just to hear other voices but knowing my luck I’d get someone else’s cinema choices and be miserable!
9. Current homelife…transportation is coming in 5 days, so there isn’t even creative clutter-just full on organized chaos reigning supreme!
10, For real, I don’t cheat. I do take office supplies home though, if I have major work to do, and sometimes they don’t exactly make it back to school.
1. Evolution
2. Paris, Munich, Berlin
3. Breakfast
4. Awesome movie
5. Late nighter

7. This One’s for You
8. music

4. Hated it.
5. I have two kids - an early riser.

7. “Empty Garden” or “The Bitch is Back”
8. books, no question.
9. One day a week, there’s a place for everything and everything’s in its place and that last for two minutes until the kids are let loose.
10. A diet - I’ve yet to find one I can stick to.
Well thankfully none of you picked the Lion King song as your favorite Elton John song… I would’ve worried. And what’s ‘Empty Garden’? I don’t think I know that one. Oh, and Alex, if it’s any consolation I didn’t know ‘for the longest time’ wasn’t an Elton John song until you said so…
Also, it’s good to know we’ve each got at least a little in common. I’d date you all… only that would be kind of weird. It sure would make for interesting blog entries though. heh.
Hey James. I was just going for New Zealand. If there is a better city, I’m game for that. I figure it would be a great place to retire, too.
Empty Garden - sad sappy song from 1982 about an abandonned garden found by the narrator. It’s not great music but reminds me of the abandonned farms I used to see in Maine as a kid.
Oh, ok. I thought it might be the one about John Lennon, but I wasn’t sure. Wait, did Elton John even do a John Lennon song? I know Stevie Knicks did… I’m confused now. lol
1. Evolution
2. Wiesbaden, Venice, Tokyo
3. Have coffee, check email, check stock market.
4. Didn’t see the movie but love Bill Murray

6. OH, lemonade for sure but home made, although I don’t make it often.
7. Goodby Yellow Brick Road, from album with the same title.
8. My knitting needles and a good stash of wool. Books and music a close second.
9. Clutter, clutter and more clutter. Although it’s all good stuff, you know wool and more wool.
10. None of the above, although if I did diet then that would be the one.
bye, bye…ciao
