A dilemma.

We’ve come to a crossroads here at the eurotrippen homestead. Having just completed season 3 of Boston Legal (my william shatner love still intact… i’m shatnertized… and before you say it jeanni- no, not in that way!), we’re staring at several multi-season contenders for our viewing pleasure.

On one hand there’s Grey’s Anatomy. I’m a little wary of this one because I’ve seen what it can do to people. Many a friend has mysteriously disappeared while watching this series… only to return waxing poetic about dr. dreamy or mr. mcsteamy or some other such nonsense. It’s like it’s some sort of weird tv-crack for that all important 18-49 demographic. The question is, can I shoulder the weight of yet another monkey on my back? I just don’t know…

Then there’s Weeds. A Showtime series about a bitchy suburban housewife who (for kicks) sells pot on the side. Everyone assures me I’d love it… that’s it has me written all over it and it’s “right up my alley”. Since I’m not even sure who I am, I suppose checking out the series could, in ways, be a sort of poor man’s therapy. Not to mention the fact that I’ve never had the opportunity to look up my own alley - could be educational.

All I know is I’ve got roughly 24 hours to make a decision or Jim’s threatening to whip out another season of Ghost Hunters…

Having seen one episode of Weeds, I want you to know that I will be watching all of them.
Maybe that will help guide your decision–and if you choose Weeds, you should (re-)watch “Saved” the movie, just for nostalgia’s sake.
I HATE Gray’s Anatomy! I liked the first season enough to watch it. I was forced to watch the 2nd season by family. By the 3rd season, even they had abandoned it. THANK GOD! The sad thing about Gray’s Anatomy is that the “lesser characters” are brilliant. I love them and the actors who play them. But I HATE the character Meredith Gray. And I DETEST McDreamy…who frankly isn’t that dreamy in my books.
I’ve never seen Weeds, so I can’t tell you anything about it. But given those two options, I’d be watching Weeds.
don’t know what it is… i call it the showtime curse… (with huff being the one exception, thus officially making it a rule)… but i generally am not as jazzed about the “great” showtime shows as other people… for me, i go in expecting hbo-level awesome and usually come out feeling short-changed…
i was so looking forward to weeds… love the premise and absolutely adore mary-louise parker… but i was disappointed with the show… which isn’t to say it was bad… just not what i was hoping for…
so, for me… between the two i’d have to go with grey’s… despite the fact, or maybe partly because, i can’t stand the main character and am only happy when she’s suffering miserably… the supporting characters are quite fun… and though i think the show has made a couple of huge missteps (which i won’t go into here since you haven’t seen it) i am still looking forward to more of it.
Heh, Jeanni, I just emailed you to get your opinion. I know what you mean about Showtime not living up to HBO standards. That’s what’s kept me from watching The Tudors as well.
TX, I take your opinion seriously because you were the first one to ever encourage me to watch Arrested Development, a show I’m ga-ga about.
Adam, only one episode and you’re already hooked??
Hmmm, decisions, decisions…
I loved weeds. i got sparky, my brother, sister and my brother’s roommate hooked on weeds. that is “weeds”, not weed. they did that all themselves. whatever you do, don’t get that single season of Surface. it sucked rocks.
I loved both Weeds and Grey’s Anatomy. I liked them both because the characters are such flawed people and as such they are very relate-able. (I watch Seasons 1 and 2 of Grey’s just this weekend, crappy rainy weather here in Norge.)
and also? Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in both and hello, he is my new love.
I’d probably pick Weeds over Grey’s, if I could have only one…..Minute for minute, it is jam packed with excitement and fun.
PS LOVE your site design.
I just was given the first two seasons of Weeds on CD, loving it so far. I also just picked up The Riches and Prison Break while in China, totally random choices but surprisingly attention grabbing.
Then again, I am a cheap date for these things.
