In my own backyard…

If you’ve been paying attention, by now you know all about my frustration with iTunes and the crappy song they’re constantly recommending for me. Well (for once) they’ve gotten something right! Thanks to a John Prine song downloaded months ago, I got a recommendation for Dan Reeder’s ‘Work Song’. After snickering at the lyrics (all 8 of them) I realized he had an interesting voice and forked over 99 cents. Six song downloads later I’m happy to have found another unique musician to add to my ever-growing collection of unique musicians.
And here’s the gravy… he’s an american expat living & working in Nürnberg. Small world. So if you like eclectic, unusual music, and your not opposed to the occasional four-letter word… check out Dan Reeder and support a fellow expat.
Dan Reeder songs I’ve downloaded so far:
- Work Song (heh, so true…)
- I Don’t Really Want to Talk to You (perfect for anti-social people… I’m completely zen with it)
- Beautiful (any song managing to incorporate jehovah’s witness AND the love you feel for your child is well worth a listen)
- I Drink Beer (the opening reminds me of my grandfather’s old Marty Robbins records)
- Shackles and Chains (a middle class white man’s old-timey spiritual)
- Food and Pussy (we’re not talking cats here…)

Oh hell yes. After reading your post I found Work Song - also available on emusic.com for anyone who uses that - and it was instantly necessary. I will check out more!
Which “Beautiful”? Christina Aguilera or by a Christian singer?
Schoko- Actually all the songs I downloaded were from the guy I mentioned, Dan Reeder. I probably need to edit my post to explain that a bit better…
