Blah to the blah. blah. blah.

Not feeling inspired today so I’m going with a bulleted list of nothingness…
- There’s a study that shows men can significantly lower their blood pressure by spending at least 10 minutes a day staring at breasts. What can women stare at for 10 minutes a day to lower their blood pressure?
- With apologies to anyone suffering through a hot summer, or those who hate Germany’s weather of late (sorry J!) but I’m digging this one so far. I’ve always loved rain, and the constant 60-some-odd degree temps throughout June and July have been dreamy. I read next we’ll be in the 90s… looks like my fairy tale summer’s coming to an end (sob). If it were up to me we’d have sweater weather year-round.
- Where has my blogging mojo gone and when will it return? Lots of bloggers are on writing sprees, yet here I sit with nothing to say and no end in sight. I blame my new laptop… ever since getting it and trying to adjust to a german keyboard (but hey… look what I can do now: ö ä ü § €) I just haven’t felt that creative.
- Ginormous used to be my least favorite non-word… now it’s going to have to be my least favorite real word. sigh.
- Why am I losing my hair?? Lately when washing my hair I literally pull away clumps. It’s like I’m a chemo patient or something. No idea what’s causing it… vitamin deficiency? allergy? stress? … but something needs to change post-haste, or I’ll end up looking like michael chiklis by halloween.
- For the past few weeks I’ve been having the weirdest dreams. I’ve always been an active dreamer and never have problems remembering them, but lately they’ve been more vivid than usual. Yesterday I dreamed I was a dead fish inside a refrigerator, and last night I grew wings and flew out my bedroom window…
- Do all dogs need to circle at least 20 times before they finally lay down, or is it just mine? I get dizzy watching him…
- I’ve been on a cleaning spree lately. By ‘cleaning’ I mean throwing out everything in my path. Who decided that stuff = success? The more you have, the more cumbersome you become. If it were up to me I’d be sitting in an white room with a plain white bed just off the floor and white curtains billowing in the wind. Nothing else. Ok, my laptop… but that’s it.
- Does anyone know how to look up which english-language films are showing at the Berlin multiplex downtown near Potsdamer Platz? I know it’s connected to the mall, but can’t remember the name of the theater or how to check the movie listings online. We’ll be in Berlin this weekend and I’m jonseing for an actual movie-theater movie… update: found the online link but how do I figure out which films are airing in their original language? Heh, now you see how completely clueless I am… which is why we normally head over there early in the day, ask which movies are playing in english, buy our tickets and come back later…
On this day..

i have what has to be an extremely irrational loathing for the combining of words to come up with a new version of the word… i hate it, hate it, hate it… yeah, hate it.
it sickens me that the dictionary would give any credence to these atrocities… i don’t care what they say… ginormous is NOT a word… at least not any word i will ever acknowledge…
the one i hate the most… guestimate… and i especially hate that it is so widely accepted… it’s retarded… and redundant… and i cringe and usually exhale heavily while rolling my eyes any time i hear it.
also, it probably isn’t the sign of anything overly healthy… but my hair has been doing that for years… and somehow, like magic… there is never any less of it… if anything, it only makes my scalp produce more of it.
I agree with the love of “sweater weather” which makes living in Mouseland so frustrating as their definition of “sweater weather” is below 80 degrees. Sorry the hot is headed your way
It looks like Seattle would be the perfect home for you — clouds and rain and all. Except lately, and certainly except today, when it will hit the mid-90’s!
My kids say ginormous ALL the time. I think it’s silly-descriptive! You’ll be happy to know, though, that it sits there in that sentence boldly underlined with a squiggly (is that a real word?) red line!
Maybe you’re losing hair because you’re pregnant??!!

Hi B.!
Is it possible that you mean the Cinestar, not the Cinemaxx? Because normally, at the homepage of Cinemaxx, you klick on “Aktuelles Programm” and there the original versions are marked “OV”. But I can’t find any for the following week.
While at http://www.cinestar.de/de/kinos-lokal/berlin-cinestar-original-im-sony-center/filme-events/programm-tickets/ (it’s located in the Sony Center, which should be the mall you were writing about), there’s loads of films with “OV” or “OmU” (original version with subtitles).
And now I’m jealous because I want to see the originals of Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Ocean’s Thirteen. Berlin…
(And by the way sorry for any weird grammar, i have a sore throat and dizzy head and stuff because of this autumnal weather. *sigh*)
I kinda like the rain too!
Um, could the hair loss possibly be related to your going vegetarian? It’s pretty hard to get enough iron from plant sources, I’ve been told. I’m really anemic right now (not diet related though) and my hair was/is falling out like crazy. Doc say it’s iron deficiency and gave me some heavy duty supplements.
And yeah, films in English (or other languages that aren’t German) have an OV (original Verfassung) in front of the name. Doesn’t look like there are any playing at the Cinemaxx right now.
I’m digging the weather now as well. I’m really not looking forward to sweating my pregnant butt off this weekend when the temps go up.
All the movies at the Cinestar Original in Sony Center are OV versions. If there is a German/non-English movie there, it will have English subtitles. We saw Pan’s Labyrinth there in Spanish with English subtitles (and way back when, before I could speak German well enough to see a movie in German, we saw Das Wunder von Bern there). I used to be able to be able to walk to Sony Center. Now I live where there’s just one showing a week in English and I have to drive to get to the theater.
Jeanni- not a big fan of the portmanteau, huh? Some are ok (like spork), but most I could do without.
Hexe- You couldn’t pay me enough to live in Florida… all that heat & humidity. ugh.
Carol- I lived in Oregon for a little over 2 years, but the entire time my heart belonged to Seattle. I love it there.. it’s one of the few places in america I’d be willing to move back to.
Janine- Leave it to me to find the wrong movie theater link! Yes, that’s the one I was thinking of. Hopefully you’ll feel better soon…
Christina- It’s funny you should mention the iron/anemia thing… I went to the doctor tuesday and one of the things he did was put me on ferro-something-or-other. He said I was pretty anemic. So maybe that’s the problem. If so at least I’ve got medicine for it now.
ChristinaG- I couldn’t remember if all the movies were in english or not… it’s god to know they are. I don’t even bother with original language movies in Dresden. I’m pretty sure they play once every wednesday or something… for sure not when I want to see them. (p.s. I’m sending lots of safe and healthy labor & delivery wishes your way!)
Yeah, I’m on ferro sanol duodenum. Is that the one you got? I’m supposed to take them for three months and get another blood test to see if the levels are up.
I’m on ferro sanol dragees. I have to go back in six weeks so he can check my potassium levels (due to the blood pressure meds I’m also on), I think he’s planning to re-check my iron levels at that time. Fun, fun, fun…
I hate those new blended words too…spit, spit! Although my mother has used guestimate my entire life…and I’m NOT young.
Stay on top of the anemia treatments and make sure your doctor knows you are eating more vegetarian now. I’m very anemic. I’ve been flirting at danger level for over two years. I take a triple dose of Ferrous Sulfate daily and eat as iron rich a diet as a vegetarian can manage. Being a vegetarian all my life and having bad endomitriosis is NOT a good combo. I’ve been referred to a hematology specialist to find out why my anemia is so bad and why my body is not responding to the iron supplements. My GP said the specialist may put me on iron shots. I know if my iron falls any more, I’ll have to have blood transfusions.
But, I have lots and lots and lots of thick hair and it’s not falling out.
Oh, and 60 is COLD to me! In my perfect world the temp would never be colder than 70 and never hotter than 85. Thank God the sea breeze keeps the temp a little cooler here on the island than the Texas mainland. It’s ONLY 90 today.
