Wherefore art thou, Ariel?

Anyone know where I can find party supplies… preferably online? Sydney’s jonesing for a Little Mermaid themed birthday party this year, but so far I haven’t had any luck tracking it (her?) down. I’ve checked amazon.de & mytoys.de and both had a pretty dismal selection. Surely there’s something out there… right?
While we’re on the subject (and here’s something I never thought I’d hear myself say… ) does anyone know how to make a Little Mermaid cake from scratch? Since I don’t think I’ll find anything like that around here I’ve stepped up to the plate and volunteered to make one.
Oy, in the words of Jenny Owen Youngs… what the fuck was I thinking?? On the bright side, as I was searching for party supplies I kept coming across ‘luftballons’ and snickering… Nena’s superfly!

Have you tried Toys ‘R’ Us? Not online, but the actual store. They usually have a fairly large selection of kids’ themed party supplies.
P.S. Ariel is spelled Arielle in German, so if you’re searching online try the German version as well.
I read last year that Nena was founding an anarchist elementary school. You should really track that down for your kids.
Did you search for “Arielle” at mytoys.de because they have a 49 pc. Arielle party set there. Or is that not quite what you were looking for?

I guess for the cake you could do the old “Barbie doll with a skirt made out of cake” thing, but have her lying down or sitting and make the cake look like a fish tail. Easier said than done, I know.
There’s also a cute idea here:

And a whole page of ‘em here:

Wow, how the heck did I miss that when I searched at mytoys?? I even went back today and searched on ‘ariel’ and it pulled up. What a dork I am, lol. Anyway, that’s pretty much perfect. One thing down.
As for the cakes… hmmm. At least some of the people explain how they made theirs- makes it much easier for me to attempt that way. How great is the internet anyway? I figured people would maybe post pictures of their cakes, but never both describing how they made them.
But I guess if you can look up how to make bombs online, it stands to reason cakes would be out there too…
Hey,
Don’t know what was up with the most recent post. (It’s still on my reader.) And being that I’m using the g-reader, I often miss comments and in all likelihood whatever it was that set it off. Lack of perfect agreement on every topic is no excuse for jerkiness. Sorry you were on the receiving end.

Thanks Ann (and thanks to Maria & Esther, too). Posting what I did was a knee-jerk reaction and bad for two reasons. First, because it was more than a little passive aggressive… dealing with the situation head-on is what’s called for; not whining about it on my blog. Second, because even though I do my fair share of complaining on here, angry diatribes aren’t what this blog’s about, and I felt that leaving it posted… I don’t know, lowered the tone or something.
Sorry to post & pull…
Did you try this site for mermaid cake ideas:

Jannette- Thank you! I’m still not sure I’m artistic enough to do this, but I guess I’ll find out in another month…
