Just in the nick of time.
Oct 19th, 2007 by B.
We’re back a day early due to some work issues on Jim’s part. At first I was a little put off by this (see previous post about having to be dragged kicking & screaming from Austria), but then I realized I was hours… possibly even minutes… certainly no more than a day… from dotting my i’s with fluffy little hearts & picking out Laura Ashley inspired dirndls to wear around the house while dusting.
Let’s face it, I’m a city girl. Hardened, sarcastic and replete with snarky observations about my fellow man. I knew I was in big trouble two days ago when we passed a farm and I said (I shit you not, I really said this) “Oooohhh, how cute is that little brown cow wearing the bell?? Don’t you just want to smother him with itty-bitty kisses and take him home?”
Austria may well be my own personal kryptonite.
That said, it was effing gorgeous and I highly recommend it to anyone mulling over vacation destinations. Just be sure to bring along some pictures of Chernobyl victims or Pamela Anderson’s footage of chickens being boiled alive by KFC workers, or K-Fed in a speedo or something. Anything to restore your equilibrium, balance your chakras and/or realign your chi.
Coming soon (for now I’m severely sleep deprived) pictures and my very own ‘top 5 things to do in the greater Salzburg area’.
P.S. first the internet, then an Oscar, now a Nobel Peace Prize… is there nothing Al Gore can’t do?
On this day..
- Hitting the road soon. - 2006

I’m glad to have you back home and near a computer again… I’ve missed you whilst you were in Austria.
Saved by work! Who would have thought?
You may think you’re safe now that you’re home, but everytime you look at the photos of Austria you’ll be transported back and wishing you could kiss the cute cow:) It’s been two years since my visit and I still look at webcams from the frigin’ place daily and dream of running away to the mountains. Can’t wait to see your photos of the place - you’re just helping me feed my addiction.
Hi B.,
You’re back from Austria and I’m back from the dead–who woulda thunk? Were you in Vienna at all? If you come back and stop in alt Wien, it would be great to meet up and have a beer! I haven’t really spent much time in the Saltzburg greater metropolitan area, but yes, the mountains in that part of Austria are pretty unbelievably beautiful, and even though I’m a restless, half-hearted resident of Austria, I’m still proud of it (sometimes.)
On a different note, thanks for checking my online pulse a few weeks back. It inspired me, and I’m blogging again. Alles gute!
hahaha - not the K-fed in a speedo! Oh the brown cows though … yeah, adorable. Those big liquid eyes. It is gorgeous. I remember being disappointed at pics because they didn’t really capture the beauty. Dont worry, the snark comes back as soon as you hit city limits.
I think that its terrible to leave such a wonderful place…but at least you know what you like right? I like your snarky comments by the way
Dusting in a Dirndl. That would have been a great picture/blog entry.
Ha! Yeah, I want to see those Dirndl pics! I’ve heard so many cool things about Austria - we were supposed to go last month - looking forward to your next post.
definitely - dirndl pics. Please. I’m not above begging.
