Be our tour guide.

I can put it off no longer, it’s time to plan our UK vacation. We’ll be spending 2 days each in the following places:
- Liverpool
- York
- Leeds
- London
- Caernarfon, Wales
- Edinburgh, Scotland
And 1 day each in:
- Chester
- Manchester
- The North Country
The London stuff we can do from memory. Jim’s family has never been, so it’ll just be a repeat of stuff we’ve done before. Our day in the North Country is solely devoted to checking out Hadrian’s Wall. And in Edinburgh the only thing we’ve booked so far is a spooky tour of the underground below the royal mile.
So that leaves lots to plan… any tips outside of London? It’s a lot of ground to cover, which seemed like a great idea at the time, but when it comes to actually sitting down & planning it… oy!
On this day..

I have always wanted to see Hadrian’s Wall ever since I did a big project and report on it in Grade 6! (embarrassed smiley)
Will you take a pic and post one for me?
ian in hamburgs last blog post..Too bad we can’t just ignore the Larry Sinclair smear campaign against Barack Obama
Like many awesome things, this military band exhibition (a bunch of amazing bagpipers marching around at night inside the castle) sounds kind of weird and lame but is unmissable if you’re going to be in Edinburgh sometime in August. I loved it:

I visited Hadrian’s Wall at a small town called “Once Brewed”, in the middle of the UK. Just near there was an old excavated Roman town called Vindolanda. I thought it was pretty cool. It is one of the only sources of everyday Roman writing, because they found a large pile of letters in a ditch that had not decayed at all. The letters were from Roman soldiers requesting a new pair of socks, and that sort of thing. I’m sure there are other options, but that village was a highlight for me.
London - go to Hyde Park…it’s always refreshing to be in the middle of it all, yet having it be so peaceful. Since you only have two days, may I suggest the hop-on-hop-off bus tours…they are cheesy and touristy, but they are an easy way to get around to the major sites.
Edinburgh - walk around the Haymarket…go to the castle…and if you want another cheesy, touristy thing then go to the Scotch Whiskey Experience (just outside Edinburgh Castle).
Thanks for the tips, now I just need to get organized and put them to good use.
And it’s a given I’ll take tons of photos and post them on Flickr.
