More goodbyes.
Jun 27th, 2008 by B.
Today we’re heading out to Nürnberg to bid farewell to Blythe and Katie, both of whom are bound for greener pastures very soon. This marks the 7th & 8th expats I personally know who are moving on. And I keep wondering… who’s going to replace them?? Won’t a gap like this mess with the space/time continuum or something? We need to get Gene Roddenberry’s ghost on this as soon as possible.
Personally I can’t wait for a bunch of fresh-off-the-boat immigrants to touch down. I can smile knowingly as they ohh & ahh over the nifty 3-point opening mechanism of German windows, or pat their little heads and tell them that it’ll be ok, eventually they really will get used to the price of gasoline…
I mean, where’s the whole hakuna matata ‘circle of life’ shit I saw on The Lion King? I’m finally in the elder’s tribe of expats still living in Germany, and there’s no one to impart my considerable wisdom to.
I feel gypped!

Whoa, really? You moved to Dresden 2 years, 4 months, and 12 days ago. Did you live somewhere else in Germany prior to that?
I’m still oohing and aahing over those windows!!
C. N. Heidelbergs last blog post..Dear US Embassy,
Cliff - Work with me here! If I’ve been around long enough to see people leaving, that makes me senior. Plus if you count the five years I spent in Heidelberg… I’m pushing 8.5 years!
C.N. - The windows really are cool. Too bad they don’t come with equally cool screens.
Doubly glad you’re still around (at least short-term). I was so sorry to read that Blythe and co. are headed home.

Check out Grana Padano. It’s available in our supermarkets…but then others have noticed how Italian-envious Regensburg is…maybe that’s a local thing.
I’ll take wisdom involving teenage German girls! My exchange student arrives Aug 2 and I think she will be more of a handful than the quiet girl we had from China.

@j: Really? I’ve been here as long as you have and plan on staying for life!
@b: It was great seeing you and the family! Hope you got some Jelly Bellys!
I put in 12 years altogether, and miss it terribly. Along with the windows. Hope you get some newbies soon.
